Fashion Citizen Exclusive Feature, Urban Cleopatra Photo Story featuring Amber (@amberalert123), shot by Tia Warhall (@tpottia)
I had the idea for this shoot last year, Urban Cleopatra. An idea that Cleopatra came back in 2012 to a new world with much less pageantry than she's used to. After all this was a woman who's beauty and wiles shut down civilizations and in this new world, she's requiring a way to set herself apart. As a fan of statement jewelry, I decided to conceptualize original pieces for Cleopatra and have them shot in a photo story. The model, Amber, literally transformed in front of the camera into a very regal yet modern Cleopatra and she made all of the pieces illuminate. I'll let the story begin and I hope you enjoy !
C leopatra finds herself in a strange world and in dire need of her royal accouterments. Large marble columns surround her, the atmosphere is regal enough but she remembers how she was draped in the finest gold and gems and she doesn't feel complete without them. Earrings appear to her and a necklace with deep green stones, burnished bronze beads and beautiful milky stones that bring to mind the soapstone from Africa. She adorns herself and quietly surveys the city laid out before her.
C leopatra wonders around this deserted marble structure to survey her kingdom and just as suddenly as the first pieces appeared, this second set appears to her. Long, bronze earrings appeal to her elegant side with their green cap stone and as they graze her shoulders she begins to believe that she can indeed reign over this new expanse of land. Her necklace, a simple choker of ornate bronze beads feels at home on her neck and at once she stands, in all of her glory, and fans out her skirt as she takes in the returning feeling of being a queen. A sly smile grazes her face as she remembers that she is the one who made men crumble with her decadence and beauty.
I n the final moments of her time at this marble temple, Cleopatra finds herself draped in a necklace that appears so heavy but is quite light. The necklace has grey pearls, black stones of many shapes and large studded beads. This, Cleopatra says to herself, is how a queen should look. The necklace lays across her bosom as if it was made with her in mind and one single earring with a long black crystalline stone hangs from her ear. She piles on bracelets, one of abalone, one of stones similar to her necklace and finally one of sharp spikes. She feels invincible, powerful, fearless...she is indeed the reincarnation of Isis just as she was many centuries ago. As the sun begins to set, she remembers her reign joyfully and just before nightfall she disappears as suddenly as she came.
All jewelry designed by Fashion Citizen, except the spiked bracelet (shopALS by Alex Smith) and the Abalone Bracelet (Joy). I would like to thank Amber for being an amazing model and bringing Cleopatra back to life with this shoot and her amazing presence. Tia, the photographer was a woman possessed with the shots she took and the collaboration with my vision. I can't articulate how we gelled on vision with this shoot, she's simply amazing. Last but not least, I'd like to thank Joy, a supporter of mine who gave me many of the beads appearing in the jewelry. To have someone invest in your dreams is beyond words and I thank her immensely.
