Fashion Citizen Forecast : Spring 2016 Menswear Picks
Spring 2016 may seem far away especially for those of us on the east coast that have just recently dug ourselves out of a blizzard. The warm weather will be here soon enough and with it comes a whole new set of style trends that are worth paying attention to. At Fashion Citizen, we're not pushing trends on you. No sir. We want you to see what's out there and then see where you can adapt those things into your wardrobe and lifestyle. So let's get started !
Layers in warmer weather are still possible, it's just done with lighter materials. The Bally look above pairs a slim fit pant with a menswear staple, the moto jacket, in a forest green color. It's always a good idea to interpret staples your own way. Classic black may work for some but if you want a moto jacket in a green, blue or even red, that's the move ! A thinner jacket is paired with a thin turtleneck to complete the look. I'd suggest nixing the layers and going with a classic white t-shirt from Mack Weldon and keeping it simple.
More of the classics, jeans, t-shirt, light jacket and sandals. Calvin Klein updates this look with a different take on the light jeans wash and instead of a khaki windbreaker, it's done this time in the style of a denim jacket in cotton. You should have a few good pairs of jeans, dark and light. They'll see you through season after season. As trends come and go, you can add to the collection. The denim jacket is another classic like the moto jacket, so get one but again, you don't have to follow the trend to the letter unless you want to.
Ok, so give me a minute with this one. We're looking at the bomber jacket here. Bomber jackets are back in a major way this spring and in all forms, long, short, satin, cotton and the list goes on. This silky embroidered one from Louis Vuitton makes a statement and can work with your dressed up looks just as well as it could with your weekend warrior gear. I'd suggest foregoing the classic version and go for one in a strong color or with embroidery or a cool design on it. Your outerwear should be just as stylish as what you have on underneath of it.
Athleisure isn't going anywhere and that's a pretty awesome thing to this blogger. What that means is that clothing that was once only suited to the gym and the couch are getting a polished overhaul and we can go out in the streets in comfortable clothing and not look like we just rolled out of bed. This look above is perfect. A great pair of sneakers, sleek and fashionable, paired with a slim fit pair of sweatpants. Here's the thing, stop running from slim fit. It simply means that excess fabric has been taken out so your clothing will fit you like it's been tailored, like the ACE pant from Mack Weldon. You can wear YOUR size in a slim fit and it'll look just fine. Lastly, your hoodies, jackets and the like should be just as well thought out as the bottoms. This is a trend that allows all of us to have a little fun with it, so do that !
Here we go, rounding out the list with a sleek casual dressed up look. In the warmer months, your dressed up looks should take on a different tone. Michael Bastian has paired a plaid shirt with a crisp blue blazer and patterned chinos. Not to be outdone, going sockless in a pair of spectator oxfords. The materials change as well, cotton is a mainstay and it breathes and will keep you cool. Find a pair or two of some chinos in a color other than khaki. Try to get at least one print, even if it's very subtle. Try to find warm weather versions of your fall favorites, that way your usual look can carry over into the warmer months in different materials.
I hope you guys have found some things to look forward to in the Spring. Remember though, it's important each season to push yourself a little further and try new things and most important of all, the fit is always the KEY to success. Word to DJ Khaled !
