Today's featured brand is Good Life University. I was put on to this brand by their very tenacious publicist, Naomi. She was excited about letting me know about the gentleman behind this brand and I have to say, she made me excited to find out more. Once I took a look at their various shoots and insane sneakers they wore in said shoots, I was sold. The brand evoked a mood that I remember very well from my college days, one of being care free, enjoying each day and night and having a good time, all the time. I know some people might say that's tough to get from pictures alone, but these images were pretty amazing. What is the idea behind Good Life University as a brand?
The idea behind the brand is to promote the positive aspects of life and to channel it through the simplest things such as wearing a piece of clothing.
How does Good Life differ from the many brands coming out of the DMV (DC Metro Area)?
Good Life University differs from other DMV clothing lines because our influences and ideas are derived from a variety of different street subcultures nationally and worldwide. We have been separated from the norm because before we are designers, we are fans. Our angle is focused on the consumer, so we don't box our ideas in strictly for our pleasure. We take the time to research and ask questions to see exactly what the masses love and want.
The feeling behind the brands seems to echo that good feeling of partying and living it up in college, who is the Good Life University customer?
A Good Life University customer is anyone that loves life, anyone that lives life to the fullest everyday, and anyone that knows how to party and look good while doing it. A Good Life University customer is also anyone that is down on their luck and needs a self-esteem boost, anyone that is unsure about that appearance and needs a little help getting fresh to start their day. A Good Life University customer is everybody!
Where is the future of Good Life University as a movement and brand headed?
We want to build a cult following. We believe in loyalty and exclusivity and we want our customers and fans to always know that we will never submit to the norm. We strive to always be ahead of the curve in the world of design. Our goal is to imprint our brand into every fashion guru, skater kid, backpacker, teenager, adult, etc's brain forever. We want to be mentioned in every conversation speaking on the hottest clothing on the market at any given time.
I noticed in a few of the pics, the sneaker game of the Good Life University folks is a cut above the rest, how does popular culture and style play into the design aesthetic of the brand?
We definitely obtain a lot of our ideas from today's current fashion trends. We are avid shoe collectors and get a lot of our colorways from the shoes we purchase. We mostly deal with exclusive releases and hard to find shoes, when it comes to the shoes that we look for and purchase. You have to keep your ear to the streets and listen in order to give the people what they want and that's what we will always do!
