Fashion Citizen Spotlight : Stevie Newbury of Urban Fresh
The gentleman pictured above is none other than Boston's own, Stevie Newbury. I first became of aware of Stevie on Twitter, although I can't remember how exactly. Stevie & the Urban Fresh family do these amazing photo shoots and events all in the name of promoting community with fashion. How cool is it to use style to be active in one's community ! I knew I had to have Stevie featured to pick his brain and display his style here for you all . . .
After the "more", get familiar with Stevie Newbury
I would need an whole other interview just on this question to be accurate, so I'm going to say the most important things...I'm a loving father, son, a best friend, fashion addict and best dressed man in Boston.
Can you explain to myself and my readers the idea behind the Urban Fresh movement?
We are a team of unique and different people, that include stylists, event planners, community advocates and PR reps. Urban Fresh is passionate about bridging the gap between fashion and social awareness through uniquely executed events. Our aim is to help contribute to Boston's fashion and social scenes, with innovative and refreshing ideas and events.
With such a unique style, what are the essential pieces for spring for the stylish man?
My must haves are colorful argyle socks, a seersucker suit, lots of pastel oxford shirts, and a great boat shoe (sebago, sperry top siders).
On that same token, what should the ladies be on the look out for?
A woman needs colors and prints. The stylish woman should look out for styles that you have never, ever done before. Work outside the box with it.
Who or what influences your personal style?
My number one influence is my father. He always dressed up no matter what the occasion was, I told myself I'm going to be like that when I become a man. I also take alot of inspiration from the Harlem renaissance era ie. Miles Davis, Langston Hughes and the gentleman from that whole time period. Another of my big influences is James Dean because everything about him I've been digging since I was a kid. I loved that whole rebel mentality. I also was in the army out of high school and I loved everything I would wear on a daily basis. Vintage military gear is also one of my favorite things to wear.
As a stylist, where do you draw your inspirations from?
Depending on who I'm styling and for what occasion I'm styling them for dictates from where I draw inspiration. I also always consult with my Partner Heleena Norvette of UrbanFresh. I actually have a consultation with my clients and ask them what look they want to go for and then I go about making that a reality.
What is the most important item a stylish/man or woman can have?
