Fashion Citizen x Daniel Hawkins, Stylist & Personal Assitant to Marlo Hampton of RHOA
Fashion Citizen : Daniel, thank you for agreeing to appear on Fashion Citizen, first, let me ask for those who may not be familiar with you, who is Daniel Hawkins?
Daniel Hawkins : Hmmm lets see...Daniel Hawkins is a workaholic who is determined to make his clients look and feel fabulous. I am personal assistant as well as stylist to Marlo Hampton of RHOA.
FC: Coming from a small town like Irmo, South Carolina, what sparked your interest in fashion ?
DH : I have ALWAYS loved fashion, even in my early childhood. I grew up with a mother who was very glamorous, she was sort of my "celebrity" because of her over the top fashion sense. I would go on to study high fashion magazines and concentrate on celebrities. As fashion grew and evolved so did I.
FC : Aside from being a stylist to Marlo Hampton, you are also her personal assistant, what is a typical day in that lane like?
DH : Omg, it is non stop lol! It usually begins with a phone call around 8am from Marlo stating exactly what she needs done, out side of the things we already have planned. Throw in about 100 emails, 20 errands, and countless phone calls and there you have it, a day in my life. I wouldn't change it for the world.
FC : When deciding on a look for Marlo, how do you ensure she retains her identity but still commands the attention of the cameras?
DH : Well with Marlo, it is pretty simple. She 9 times out of 10 allows me free reign with her look. Sometimes, we butt heads since she loves and understands fashion so well herself, however that makes the look that much more memorable. The great thing about Marlo is the same looks that we do on camera are the same looks that I put her in from day to day. She always wants to look fabulous and fashion forward at all times, and I am 100% for it.
FC : As far as your own personal style, what are you go tos when you're on and off the clock?
DH : When on and off the clock my fashion sense is pretty much the same. A great skinny jean by Nudie, Louboutin or Jimmy Choo shoes are a must, and amazing jewelry always adds an extra something to any look.
FC: Being successful as a personal assistant and stylist must leave you little time for yourself, how do you manage me time in the midst of all your responsibilities?
DH : Me time has gotten a little difficult now. So when I am able to enjoy time from work I usually like to go out for a drink and good music. The good thing about having one of your best friends as a boss is the opportunity to have fun even while working. I'll have plenty of me time later for now I'm focused on working and keeping my client happy!
FC: Let's talk about the projects that you're working on for the Daniel Hawkins brand, what can we expect to see from you this year ?
DH : This year I will be working on my website, where you will be able to find out all about me and information on my services. There are many other projects that are in the works for Marlo as well so that will keep me very busy.
