Neckties…The Gentleman’s Accessory
I was perusing my fashion library and I came across ABC of Men's Fashion by Hardy Amies. It's a very candid resource and I like to check through it and see what Sir Hardy has to say about the various facets of menswear. I settled on the ties entry yesterday and I learned quite a bit. I want to share some of the finer points I learned with you gentleman as well as provide a few online boutiques where you can find quality neckties.

-
All good ties are cut on the bias. It is desirable to have a tie cut on the bias because there is then more give in the material when you pull it around your neck; it also makes a neater more shapelier knot.
-
Good ties are lined with silk at the tips.
-
Most tie designers get their silks from Italy, England, France and Switzerland.
-
80% of all the colored patterned ties we see are really half black
-
It is the function of a tie to provide a contrast to the wool of the suit material.
-
A tie is more than the finishing touch to the costume; it is an integral part of it.

Those are just a few of the tips I thought were "need to know" and here are a few sites that offer very top notch ties !
