The Dazzle Cartel
Last week, I had the chance to interview the ladies of Dazzle Cartel. I was approached by their great publicist, Candice and I agreed to check out the ladies and see what they were about.
The two ladies I interviewed are pictured above in the front row. CiCi is on the left and Chanel is on the right.
We had great casual conversation about the beauty industry both local and abroad, as it relates to black women. One hot topic was hair weaves and the age of the hair that women are weaving into their heads, often times, the ladies said, the hair is quite old but the shops continue to sell hair that is many years old. It was these type of revelations and educating things the ladies poured out during the whole interview. The ladies of Dazzle Cartel are black women who style black women's hair and outfit them from head to toe. The Dazzle Cartel is invested in black hair because they have black hair and they do black hair with experience behind them in creating beautiful looks and developing innovations in the beauty industry.
The ladies are seeking to change the game by making ladies beautiful through and through. The ladies also do consultations to help you put your best foot forward in how you look.
After the jump check out the interview and information on how to contact the ladies
Who is Dazzle Cartel?
It's a team of hairstylists, make up artists, photographers, nail artist, wardrobe stylist...a glam squad. One stop shop. We also do weddings and we're there the whole time to ensure the bride looks great the whole day.
What services do you offer as a glam squad?
We do African American hair, specializing in styling, mani/pedi, waxing, eyebrows and lashes. We also have a studio where we can take photos with our photographers. We also do personal styling.
What makes a woman beautiful?
It starts with the hair, if your hair isn't correct, nothing else works. Then the outfit, with the small details coming in last. As a glam squad, we notice everything and we style clients from head to toe, paying close attention to the total look as well as each detail. We come with credentials, so we know what we're doing and how to make black women look beautiful.
In the tradition of Madame CJ Walker, women have been forging there own paths in business for a great while. Where do you all see the business in 5 years?
Chanel : In 5 years, I want to develop a hair care line along with make-up, jewelry...everything fabulous for the black girl.
CiCi : We want to make sure that black girls have somewhere to get fabulous, one stop shop, in all price ranges. We, as black women, don't have anything and we need something that is ours, that is quality and fabulous.
When did you all know that this business was for you?
CiCi : It's been a long time coming, I'll tell you that. I knew about 6 months ago when we got the studio that this was something I wanted to do. I was in an engineering program at Howard and I stopped doing that because it just wasn't what I wanted to do. I realized that since 2006, Chanel and I have been doing hair shows, styling and the whole gambit. Chanel came to me and said she wanted to get a studio so she could have some place to do hair and I was in.
Chanel : I've known for about a year. I've always wanted to have my own line of products though and my family pretty much brought me up in the trade, with many people around me doing hair and having salons. I have always been around the beauty industry but it's not something you take seriously, at first, because so many people fail at it. I'm Pre-Med and I'm supposed to be on my way to med school but this is my passion right now. I'm going to go back and finish that out but right now the Dazzle Cartel is what I'm about.
I'd like to thank Candice Nicole PR for this opportunity and the ladies of Dazzle Cartel, CiCi and Chanel.
You can find the ladies on Facebook here , the contact information for Chanel, Cici and the other ladies can be found there.
