Working Girl – – How to be office appropriate & stylish
Back to school season is fast approaching . . . many are coming off of their last summer of "freedom" and entering the work force. It's not an easy thing to transition from a college life into that of a 9-5'er but I'm here to help with this post. I hear more than anything else that young ladies don't know how to dress when in the office. I observe it myself and this is not to exempt some of the gents who are lack luster but we'll address that later. For now, ladies, this is your show ! As a young person in the work force, you don't want your wardrobe to be the reason why no one can focus on your skills and talents. Let your wardrobe and style be an addition not a subtraction to your ascent up the career ladder. Here a few simple tips that will keep you stylish and office appropriate . . .
- Keep heel height below 4 inches. I understand some women are petite in height and you want to step your game up with a great pump. Anything above 4 inches is not only mildly distasteful, depending on what your office environment is, but it is also an impediment to moving around the office. You don't want to stumble around the office because your shoes are to high for you to perform basic tasks.
- Cover up ! This is a big one, ill fitting pants exposing parts of your body that should never be seen by your co-workers and over flowing cleavage are a no no in the office. If you think that it's too tight or too low, then it is, don't second guess yourself. If you feel a top is too low, put a cami underneath it and that solves that problem. Be sure to get good quality pants and skirts and have them tailored to fit your proportions properly.
- Be modest. Beyonce, Rihanna and the like are cool style icons for your weekend and going out gear but do not attempt to be the female version of a hustler in the office. Tone down the accessories and bright colors for the office. Select one statement piece to make an outfit interesting or take a bright color and mix it in with neutrals. Don't quench your stylish nature, just turn it down a few notches for 8 hrs.
